Candidates must hold a good Honours degree (First or 2i) or a Master’s degree (MSc, MMath, MSci) at merit or distinction in a relevant subject or equivalent. For best consideration, candidates should either have a Master’s degree or expect to finish their Master’s by September 2012. The scholarship competition is open to all PhD applicants. UK, EU and overseas fee paying students are invited to apply. Overseas students would have to make up the difference between the Home and Overseas tuition fees.

Scholarship Description: The School of Mathematics, Statistics and Actuarial Science invites applications for several SMSAS studentships to carry out doctoral research in any of the research areas covered by the School: Actuarial Science and Finance; Pure and Applied Mathematics; and Statistics. The School offers a lively research culture with a thriving group of over 200 taught and research postgraduate students. Kent is among the best research-intensive universities in the UK. In the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise (RAE), the university was ranked 24th out of 159 institutions for its world-leading research, with six of our subject areas (including statistics) in the top ten nationwide.
