Applying for the George J. Mitchell Scholarships

Persons interested in applying for a George J. Mitchell Scholarship are encouraged to begin preparing their applications well in advance of the Monday, October 6th, 2008 deadline. All applications for the Mitchell Scholarship must be submitted through the online application on our website online application. Once you create an account to apply, you will receive a confirmation email with your password, which you will need each time you access your application. All letters of recommendation and the institutional endorsement must be submitted online as well. General information about the program is available on this website, and in our downloadable brochure. Applicants are required to provide exactly five letters of recommendation, proof of US citizenship (passport/birth certificate), academic transcripts, completed online application, and a well-thought out 1000-word personal essay. In addition, those applicants who are full-time students at the time of application must obtain an institutional endorsement and three of the five letters of recommendation must come from persons with whom the candidate has done academic work. Those applicants who are not full-time students do not need an institutional endorsement, and of the five letters of recommendation required, only two must be from persons with whom the candidate has done academic work.

It is important that applicants spend sufficient time examining the various programs at the different Irish/Northern Ireland universities in order to determine which programs they are most interested in and qualified for. Applicants are responsible for ensuring that the institutional endorsement and letters of recommendation are received by the Mitchell Scholarship office by the Monday, October 6th, 2008 deadline. No exceptions will be made for late applications.
