Deadline for fellowships is January 16th of the year in which they will be awarded.

Available Fellowships:

The ISI Richard M. Weaver Fellowship pays tuition at the school attended by the recipient, a stipend of $5,000, and awards $1,000 in ISI Books. More than 400 Weaver graduate fellowships have been granted since the program’s inception in 1964.

The ISI Western Civilization Fellowship awards each recipient $20,000 for graduate work related to Western Civilization studies. Two of these graduate fellowships are awarded annually.

The ISI Salvatori Fellowship provides $10,000 to each awardee for graduate work related to the American Founding. Two of these graduate fellowships are awarded annually.

The ISI Bache Renshaw Fellowship awards each recipient $12,000 toward doctoral study in education that will influence the discipline with the ideas, values, and institutions that are fundamental to America’s Western tradition.

In addition to the above fellowships for graduate students, ISI awards an undergraduate fellowship each year. Graduating college seniors interested in the William E. Simon Fellowship for Noble Purpose are invited to apply. Application guidelines for the Simon Fellowship are distinct from those requirements listed below for the graduate fellowships.

General Requirements:

In order to qualify for ISI graduate fellowships, applicants must engage in graduate studies for the purpose of teaching at the college level. Those attending pre-professional (medical, law) schools are ineligible. Applicants must be U.S. citizens and college seniors or graduate students who are familiar with ISI’s purposes and programs and who receive The Intercollegiate Review. Applicants may apply for more than one fellowship, but an applicant may receive only one ISI fellowship during his academic career.

Required Materials:

Fellowship materials must be postmarked on or before January 16th. Please submit the following information:

  1. Fellowship Application (PDF)
  2. Three brief statements:
    • Why the applicant has chosen teaching as a profession
    • Why applicant desires a fellowship
    • Signed declaration of intent to teach
  3. Copies of official undergraduate and graduate transcripts
  4. Three letters of recommendation
  5. Three essays:
    • An essay written on the theme of the fellowship for which you are applying(5–10 pages)
    • Personal, philosophical, professional autobiography(five pages maximum
    • Copy of paper submitted for university coursework(ten pages maximum)

For each fellowship sought, applicants must submit separate copies of all components of the application.
