Description:
The Respiratory Biomechanics and Mechanobiology Laboratory in the Biomedical Engineering department at the Ohio State University is currently accepting applications for a PhD level graduate research assistantship (GRA). The selected student will participate in an NSF funded research project which utilizes computational and experimental techniques to develop molecular and cellular therapies for respiratory disorders. Specific areas of research training include image-based computational modeling, molecular and cellular biomechanics, biofluid mechanics and multi-scale modeling. Students will be exposed to cutting-edge computational and experimental techniques and will be encouraged to participate in the translational research programs within the the Division of Pulmonary, Allergy, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine. Outstanding resources are also available at the Davis Heart and Lung Research Institute and Ohio Supercomputer Center.
Qualifications:
This position is available starting Summer or Fall quarter 2009 and students must have strong mathematical skills, a desire to work in a highly collaborative environment of engineers and clinical scientists and a B.S. and/or M.S. degree in biomedical, chemical or mechanical engineering. Previous experience with finite element or other computational methods, transport phenomena, molecular mechanics and/or cell-culture techniques are a plus.
