The Rudolf Virchow Center is one of the first DFG-funded „Centers of Excellence“ and is devoted to research on target proteins such as receptors and signaling proteins. The graduate students are a part of the Graduate School of Life Sciences at the University of Würzburg, which is funded through the „Excellence Inititative of the Federal and State Government“. The molecular microscopy group (AG Harms) is seeking highly motivated

Graduate Students
to perform research in the following subject areas:
•       Imaging and molecular interactions of developmental processes in living animal models
•       Imaging and tracking of cytokine and G-Protein coupled receptor interactions and their signalling pathways in model and primary cell lines
•       Functional studies of ion channels and transporters with electrophysiology, biochemi-cal and biophysical techniques

Qualified applicants will either have completed a diploma or masters degree with high marks in Biology, Chemistry, Physics or in a nearly related field. Prior laboratory experience prefer-rably in molecular biology, biochemistry, and/or biophysics is essential. Applicants should have a desire to participate in collaborative, interdisciplinary work.
The research group is committed to the application and assembly of biosensors and their im-plementation in important transgenic model organisms, optical microscopes, and biophysical and biochemical techniques aimed at the better understanding and cure of cancer and cardi-ovascular diseases. The group is working higly collaborative and interdisciplinary within the University of Würzburg and also internationally.

Participitation at the Graduate School of Life Sciences will offer special courses to comple-ment an individual’s personal needs to complete interdisciplinary research.

The salary will be paid according to the regulations of the State of Bavaria (TV-L).
