IAPMO Scholarship Essay Contest in USA, 2015

The IAPMO Group invites applications for essay contest available for current high school senior; or enrolled or accepted as a full-time (12 credit hours) student in an accredited technical school, community college, trade school, four-year accredited college or university, or an apprentice program. Students will write an essay on “What role can IAPMO play in helping the plumbing industry develop new sources of potable water?” There are three prizes available for students. The 1st prize holder will receive $1,000; 2nd prize holder will receive $750; and third prize holder will receive $500 and their essays will be published in the award-winning official magazine and on the IAPMO Website in the next few months. The application deadline is May 1, 2015.

Scholarship Description: The International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials (IAPMO), a worldwide organization of dedicated professionals striving to make our planet a safer and healthier place in which to live, will again sponsor an essay competition awarding scholarships to three young people. Participants in this year’s contest will submit essays expressing their thoughts on “What role can IAPMO play in helping the plumbing industry develop new sources of potable water?” As IAPMO’s Uniform Plumbing Code® serves as the basis of codes that protect one half of the world’s population through safe installation and governance of plumbing systems around the globe and includes numerous provisions addressing sustainable systems and practices, the topic chosen by the IAPMO Board of Directors succinctly reflects both IAPMO’s 87-year-old mission and its future.

What does it cover? Prizes will be awarded as follows:
-First place: $1,000; publication of essay in Official and at IAPMO website; one-year IAPMO membership
-Second place: $750; publication of essay in Official and at IAPMO website
-Third place: $500; publication of essay in Official and at IAPMO website
The top scholarship of $1,000 was awarded at this year’s annual business and educational conference to Sarah Bastin. The second place scholarship of $750 was awarded to Alden Arnold and the third place award of $500 was awarded to Jonathan Johnson. The essays will be published in the award-winning Official Magazine and on the IAPMO Website in the next few months.

Notification: IAPMO’s Board of Directors will select and announce essay contest winners by August 2015.

How to Apply: Essays must be written on the topic noted above, and must be an original essay. Essays should be no fewer than 800 words and no more than 1,600 words. Essays must be typewritten, double-spaced. All citations to factual data should be noted in the footnote or in a References page. Cover page should include student’s name, address, phone number and email. Essays must be submitted by email to essay-at-iapmo.org, fax or mail.

Scholarship Application Deadline: The application deadline is May 1, 2015.
