The Young Scientist Fellowship (YSF) offers opportunities for young, promising scientists to do their own basic research work in one of the Institute of Basic Sciences (IBS) Research Centers while sharing ideas and utilising our state-of-art infrastructures. Korean nationals are eligible to apply for this fellowship programme.

The goal of IBS is to advance the frontiers of knowledge and to train the leading scientists of tomorrow.

Applicants must have their previous degree.

Course Level: Fellowship is available to young scientists.

Study Subject: The YSF offers opportunities for young, promising scientists to do their own basic research work in one of the IBS Research Centers while sharing ideas and utilising our state-of-art infrastructures. 

Scholarship Award: The YSF provides KRW 150-300 million per year

  • YSF fellows will be appointed for 3 years with possible extension of 2 years
  • YSF fellows should be physically relocated to one of the IBS Centers
  • YSF fellows are eligible to apply for the IBS Career Development Award (CDA)

Note: A research fund that can be used in the newly appointed affiliation after completing YSF

Scholarship can be taken at Korea

Eligibility: The following criteria must be met in order for applicants to be eligible for fellowship:
Within 5 years of obtaining a Ph.D. or under the age of 40 with a PhD

Nationality: Korean nationals are eligible to apply for this fellowship programme.

How to Apply:
1.Fill out the letter of intent form in English and submit via email to ysf-at-ibs.re.kr as a single PDF file no later than July 31, 2016 (KST).
2. The title of the email should be “Applicant Name_YSF”.
