ICCR Scholarships for Foreign Students in India, 2014/15

Applications are invited for ICCR Scholarships available for foreign students for the academic year 2014-15. The ICCR annually offers about 3365 scholarships under 24 scholarship schemes. A scholarship is awarded only when admission is confirmed by ICCR. Candidates may note that Indian universities/educational institution are autonomous and independent and hence have their own eligibility criteria which have to be fulfilled. Scholarships are available for students who are in undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programmes as well as in professional courses such as engineering, pharmacy, accountancy, business administration and management. Scholarships are also given for learning Indian dance, music, painting, sculpture, etc.

Study Subject (s): Scholarships are provided to study any of the courses offered by the universities except MBBS/MD or Dentistry/Nursing courses.
Course Level: Scholarships are available for pursuing undergraduate/postgraduate/ PhD programme. AYUSH Scholarships will be awarded to study Indian Traditional Medicine Systems such as Ayurveda, Unani, Siddha & Homeopathy.

Eligibility:
-Students applying for doctoral/ post doctoral courses should include a synopsis of the proposed area of research.
-Candidates must have adequate knowledge of English.
-Priority will be given to students who have never studied in India before.
-Candidates may note that Indian universities/educational institution are autonomous and independent and hence have their own eligibility criteria which have to be fulfilled. Please also note that acceptance of application by the University is also not a guarantee of admission. A scholarship is awarded only when admission is confirmed by ICCR.
-Student must carry a proper visa. Students should ensure that they get the correct visa from the Indian Embassy/High Commission. Government of India guideline stipulate that if a scholar arrives without proper visa and his/her actual admission at the University/Institute does not materialize, he/she will be deported to his/her country.

Scholarship Open for Students of Following Countries: Foreign students (non Indian) can apply for these ICCR scholarships.

Scholarship Description: One of the major activities of the ICCR is its scholarship programme. The ICCR annually offers about 3365 scholarships under 24 scholarship schemes. Of these scholarships, 1000 are exclusively for the students of Afghanistan and 900 for students from African countries. There are students in India under these schemes from about 135 countries. Most of the scholarship holders come from developing countries in Asia, Africa, South and Central America. However, there are quite a few students from the developed countries as well. Around 4750 foreign students are currently studying in India under the various scholarship schemes. The students are in under graduate, post graduate and doctoral programmes as well as in professional courses such as engineering, pharmacy, accountancy, business administration and management. Scholarships are also given for learning Indian dance, music, painting, sculpture, etc.

-Scholarships for Sri Lankan nationals: Nehru Memorial Scholarship Scheme, Maulana Azad Scholarship Scheme and Rajiv Gandhi Scholarship Scheme
-Scholarships for Bangladeshi nationals
-Scholarships for Nepalese nationals (also known as Silver Jubilee Scholarship Scheme)
-Scholarships for Mongolian nationals
-Scholarships for Bhutanese nationals
-Scholarships for Maldivian nationals
-ICCR Cultural Scholarship Scheme (For Dance/Music/Yoga/Art)

Duration of award(s): These ICCR scholarships will be awarded for the duration of the programme.

What does it cover? Scholarships will include:
-Living allowance per month as follows: Undergraduate- 5,500, Postgraduate- 6,000, M.Phil/PhD- 7,000, Postdoctoral Fellow- 7,500
-House rent Allowance per month: In Grade 1 cities:5,000 and In other cities: 4,500
-Contingent  grant per annum: Undergraduate- 5,000, Postgraduate- 7,000, M/Phil / PhD- 12,500, Postdoctoral studies- 15,500
PhD Scholar- 10,000
-For BBA/BCA/MBA/MCA/M.Tech and other course required submission of Project: 7.000

Selection Criteria: Priority will be given to students who have never studied in India before.
