International Master Scholarships in Fire Safety Engineering, 2018

The International Master of Science in Fire Safety Engineering is a 2-year full-time educational master programme. There are full scholarships and tuition fee reductions available, for both EU and non-EU students.

The IMFSE programme is jointly offered by 3 Full Partner Universities: Ghent University (Belgium), Lund University (Sweden) and the University of Edinburgh (UK).

The IMFSE programme consists of 4 semesters of 30 ECTS-credits each, i.e. 2 years and 120 ECTS-credits in total. The mobility structure, with the possible change in study location after each semester, gives students the opportunity to gain from the strengths and expertise of more than three universities in the field of Fire Protection Engineering.

Scholarship Description:

  • Study Subject:  Scholarships are awarded to study Fire Safety Engineering.
  • Scholarship Award:  There are full scholarships and tuition fee reductions available, for both EU and non-EU students.
  1. Erasmus+:The Erasmus+ scholarships for Partner Country students are to be considered “full scholarships” since they cover all necessary costs during the study period in Europe. Over 2 years, the total amount of the scholarship is around € 49,000. This includes a contribution to the IMFSE programme of € 9,000 per year, i.e. the tuition fee. The remainder of the scholarship, covering travel, accommodation and living costs, is paid to the student in monthly installments plus additional fixed contributions during the course of the study, depending on your mobility.
  2. Master Grant:Ghent University awards a full scholarship on a yearly basis, called the ‘Master Grant’ for students from developing countries. The application is done through the regular application forms.
  3. IMFSE consortium scholarship (for Partner Country students):The IMFSE consortium awards a full scholarship on a yearly basis, called the ‘IMFSE consortium scholarship’. The application is done through the regular application forms.
  4. IMFSE EEA scholarship (for Programme Country students):Up to 2 scholarships will be granted to EEA students in 2017. Each scholarship amounts to a maximum of €20,000, of which €3,000/year is taken as tuition fee reduction. The scholarship will be paid as 10 monthly payments of €700 each academic year during the studies (no payments in July and August), for a maximum of 2 years. In other words, the student will receive a maximum of €14,000 in total and has to pay €4,000/year in tuition fee.

Eligibility for the Scholarship:

  • Eligible Countries:  Scholarships are available for both EU and non-EU students.
  • Entrance Requirements: Applicants must have a Bachelor’s degree or recognized equivalent from an accredited institution (minimum 3 years full-time study or 180 ECTS credits) in civil / structural / mechanical / electrical / chemical / industrial engineering, material sciences, chemistry, physics, applied physics, architecture, urbanism and spatial planning or a related discipline.
  • English Language Requirements: IMFSE is an English taught programme and an English language proficiency is thus a basic requirement. Applicants must therefore provide us with one of the following certificates:
  1. A recent (maximum two years old) IELTS (Academic) Certificate (TRF: test report form) with a minimum score of 6.5 (with at least 6.0 in each section).
  2. A recent (maximum two years old) Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English (CAE) Grade B.
  3. A recent (maximum two years old) TOEFL-iBT (internet-based) Certificate with a minimum score of 92 (with at least 20 in each section).
  4. A recent (maximum two years old) Pearson PTE (Academic) Certificate with a minimum score of 62 (with at least 56 in each section and at least 61 for writing).
  5.  A recent (maximum two years old) Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE) Grade C.
  6.  A recent (maximum two years old) Trinity ISE II Certificate with distinctions in all four components.

How to Apply:

  • A passport photo
  • A copy of your passport (or other official identification proof for EU students)
  • Legalised copy (*1) of your Bachelor’s diploma (and Master’s, if applicable) in the original language. The country of origin determines whether documents have to be legalised by the Belgian embassy, by apostille certification, by APS certificate, or are exempt of official certification. Check this overview.
  • A certified English translation of your Bachelor’s and Master’s (if applicable) diploma, unless the document was issued in English.
