The Biozentrum together with the Werner Siemens – Foundation (WSF) launches the International PhD program in Molecular Life Sciences and encourages excellent students to apply for one of the
prestigious WSF fellowships.
The Biozentrum provides an internationally renowned research environment centered around three focal areas (Infection Biology, Growth and Development, Neurobiology) and two core programs (Structural Biology & Biophysics and Computational & Systems Biology) and is dedicated to basic molecular and biomedical research (http://www.biozentrum.unibas.ch/). We offer advanced Interdisciplinary training in the field of modern biology, a lively and interactive educational atmosphere, and competitive salaries with respect to European standards. University graduates admitted to the program receive theoretical and practical training and conduct a three-year research project under the supervision of a Biozentrum faculty member, monitored by a Thesis Advisory Committee.
Basel is an international center for biology research with major academic life science institutes and a high density of globally operating biotech companies.

I am Khalid A. Mohammed Enan , I was graduated from Khartoum University , faculty of Veterinary Medicine in 2004. I am a Researcher in the Central Laboratory Ministry of Science & Technology, Khartoum- Sudan. I have MSc. degree from Sudan Academy of Science in 2008 the title of my thesis is:
Evaluation of Human Cytomegalovirus (HCMV) Viral Load Using Real-time PCR in Comparison With HCMV ELISA in Renal Transplant Patients in Khartoum State-Sudan.
I experienced a wide variety of research techniques including research methodologies, data analysis presentation of results, discussion of finding and further research recommendations. I obtained broad experiences during the last four years working as researcher at the Central Laboratory. My work in the lab concerns about the diagnosis of viral diseases using different serological testes, cell culture, and molecular diagnostic tools such as PCR, Real-time PCR. I cooperate with the master and PhD students in their research. Also, I participate in the practical sessions of virology training courses in the lab. Also I participated mainly in T. annulata vaccine production.
My MSc project concerns about HCMV in renal transplant patients. No previous information was available regarding CMV about the disease status in Sudan. The objectives of my MSc Project including detection of HCMV IgG and IgM antibodies among renal transplant recipients using ELISA, to evaluate the value of Real-Time PCR in determination of HCMV viral load, and to compare between the diagnostic values of Real-Time PCR and IgM ELISA based. By the end of the project the incidence and existence of HCMV in Sudan was documented through detection of HCMV-specific antibodies (IgG and IgM in the plasma samples) indicating high prevalence among renal transplant patients in Sudan. Moreover, the HCMV detection using real-time PCR was established. Generally, these findings are useful for future studies since there is little available information about HCMV infection and in Sudan.
