International postgraduate program in Molecular Biology Leibniz Graduate School on
Ageing and Age-Related Diseases
The Leibniz Graduate School on Ageing and Age-Related Diseases (LGSA) is a joint program of the Leibniz Institute for Age Research – Fritz Lipmann Institute (FLI) and the Friedrich-Schiller-University (FSU) in Jena. The LGSA offers an international postgraduate program in Molecular Biology, Molecular Genetics, Cell Biology, Developmental Biology, Cancer Biology, Neurobiology and Structural Biology. Training and research within the PhD program is interdisciplinary with the endeavour to understand the multifaceted mechanisms that cause the development of age-related diseases and those that cause senescence and ageing and to prepare young scientists for meeting the challenges of this rapidly evolving field.
Interested candidates are encouraged to submit their application before July 10th for the following PhD-projects:
• Global Mapping of Transcription Factor Binding Sites and Target Gene Networks (Cornelis Calkhoven)
• Identification of gene loci responsible for age-related pathologies in natural populations of the short-lived fish Nothobranchius fuzeri (Alessandro Cellerino)
• Identification of splice form specific Wt1 binding sites
in the genome (Christoph Englert)
• Neuroprotective role of thyroid hormones in ischemic brain injury(Heike Heuer)
• Structure and function of the ?-secretase complex component nicastrin (Manuel Than) Further information on the Leibniz Graduate School of Aging and Age Related Diseases (LGSA) including application guidelines can be found at http://www.fli-leibniz.de/phd/.
Eligible are students that have obtained, or that will obtain within half a year, an academic degree comparable to the master degree or diploma in natural sciences (e.g. Biology, Biochemistry, Physics, Chemistry).

instructors who have never been trained with.

I graduate with first class honors in science specifically in the field of organic chemistry. I am currently engaged in tutorial work at the university of Papua New Guinea. While being a tutor I did some research in protein chemistry and discovered defence related proteins from native squash plants.
