International Research Position: Coral Reef Fisheries
Research Position at WorldFish in Honiara or Nusa Tupe, Solomon Islands
Job Description: The Center is a nonprofit organization and a member of the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research (CGIAR).
Key Responsibilities
• Designing and leading innovative research projects in small-scale fisheries management in collaboration with national partners;
• Providing technical input to components of multi-disciplinary projects that may include climate change adaptation, gender, integrated coastal zone management;
• Developing and leading cross-disciplinary and participatory approaches for analyzing institutional, management and policy challenges relating to food security, ecology, and livelihoods;
• Facilitating exchange of lessons and best practices through innovative approaches to communication;
• Publishing results of research in peer-reviewed scientific journals, policy briefs, and popular media and present research at international conferences;
• Contributing to setting WorldFish research priorities in the region; and
• Conceptualizing and developing proposals for future grant-funded research.
Skills and Abilities
• Demonstrated research innovation, publications in internationally refereed journals and the application of research to management issues;
• Strong quantitative skill in statistical and spatial analysis, and relevant computer programs;
• Excellent program management skills, including planning organization, and budgeting;
• Ability to work effectively in diverse cultural contexts;
• Proficient in English language – writing and orally; and
• Proficiency in Pidgin language and/or experience in field research in Melanesia would be desirable.

Qualifications and Experiences
• PhD in coral reef ecology, tropical fisheries, or related discipline with three year’s research experience in tropical marine ecosystems; and
• Experience in assembling, organizing and analyzing information from a variety of sources and disciplines and synthesizing these to identify emergent issues and ideas.
