Jagdish Bhagwati LLM Fellowship is open for Indian students at the Columbia University. Fellowship is available for pursuing LL.M. Program at Columbia Law School. Eligibility: To be eligible for admission to the LL.M. Program, applicants must hold a first degree in law. A degree in a field other than law, even if followed by a master’s degree in law, generally does not suffice for admission. Applicants who have earned a law degree by correspondence course work or distance learning are not eligible for admission. As the LL.M. is a full-time program of study, students are not permitted to accept off-campus employment while enrolled in the program.

Scholarship Description: The Indian government has underwritten the Jagdish Bhagwati Fellowship to support graduate students at Columbia Law School who wish to specialize in the study of WTO law and multilateralism in trade, and their merits vis-à-vis plurilateral trade initiatives such as TTIP and TPP. The Law School offers a comprehensive course in this area, co-taught by Professors Jagdish Bhagwati (Economics) and Petros C. Mavroidis (Law). In addition, the Law School and other divisions of Columbia University offer specialized seminars in international trade law and related topics. The Jagdish Bhagwati Fellowship will provide partial to full funding for up to three fellows per academic year.

What does it cover? The Jagdish Bhagwati Fellowship will provide partial to full funding for up to three fellows per academic year.

How to Apply: A complete Jagdish Bhagwati LL.M. Fellowship Application consists of:
-A completed application for admission to the LL.M. program through LSAC, including your résumé/CV;
-A separate two-page essay describing your academic and professional exposure to international trade, as well as your specific interests within this area. Additionally, if as part of your LL.M. studies you are interested in conducting research in the area of international trade, detail your research agenda in your essay. Label the first page of your essay “Application for Jagdish Bhagwati Fellowship,” and upload the essay to the appropriate section of the LSAC online application; and
-A completed Application for Financial Assistance as part of the LSAC Online LL.M. application. In providing a candid picture of your financial resources, you are enabling the selection committee to determine the appropriate level of assistance to provide to each Fellow and to maximize the number of Fellowships it can award each year.
