Junior Clinical Training Scholarship in Equine Studies at University of Cambridge in UK, 2015

University of Cambridge has invited applications for Junior Clinical Training Scholarship in Equine Studies. The emphasis of the programme is on gaining practical clinical experience in equine medicine and surgery and will therefore allow Junior Scholars to identify specific fields in which to specialize. To be eligible, an applicant must be a member of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons or hold a veterinary degree qualifying him or her for membership. The Junior Scholarship is for one year only, beginning on 1 April 2015. Scholarship is subject to an initial monitoring period of 3 months. The application deadline is 4th May 2015.

Scholarship Description: Applications are invited from recently qualified veterinarians for this 12 month post-graduate training programme offering high-quality, post-graduate training in equine studies. The emphasis will be on gaining practical clinical experience in equine medicine and surgery under the supervision of recognised specialists, and will allow the Scholar to identify specific fields in which to specialise, either in preparation for Senior Clinical Scholarship training programmes, or specialist private practice.

Duration of award(s): This Junior Clinical Training Scholarship is for one year only, subject to satisfactory completion of the initial 3-month monitoring period, beginning on 1 April 2015.

What does it cover? The award for a Junior Scholarship awarded with a start date between 1 October 2014 and 30 September 2015 is £14,700.00. Junior Scholars will be offered the possibility of single accommodation shared with other Junior Scholars in the vicinity of the Department site for the duration of the Scholarship. The accommodation is offered at a reduced rent. Junior Scholars who do not wish to take up this accommodation are advised to arrange to reside centrally in Cambridge, and will be put in touch with the University’s Accommodation Service to facilitate this.

Selection Criteria: The following are essential:
-Membership of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons.
-Experience of working, and willingness to work, as part of a team
-Willingness to seek, and to accept, guidance and supervision from all Hospital staff involved with clinical work
-Ability and willingness to provide guidance and supervision to students
-Proven ability to work across the relevant species, and experience of handling all relevant species
-Ability to cope with out of hours emergency working
-Willingness to complete the JCTS training programme
-Proven attention to detail
-A good understanding of the professional context of veterinary medicine
-A clean driving licence

Notification: Interviews for the Junior Scholarship will be held on 19th May 2015. The Department will endeavour to notify scholarship applicants who have been shortlisted for interview within ten days of the closing date for applications.
