The Faculty of Oriental Studies has approximately 45 post holders teaching the
language, literature, history, thought, and material cultures of the many civilizations of the
Near and Middle East, South and Inner Asia, and East Asia. The faculty’s physical centre is
the Oriental Institute in Pusey Lane in central Oxford, where many of the teachers and other
academic post holders have their working rooms. It also houses the faculty’s main offices,
seminar and lecture rooms, a common room, and a lending library with open access to about
40,000 volumes, which is administered as a dependent library of the Bodleian.

Applications for this post will be considered by a selection committee containing
representatives both from the University and from the Oxford Centre for Hebrew and Jewish
Studies. Where suitably qualified individuals are available, selection committees will contain
at least one member of each sex.

Terms and Conditions
7.
The salary will be £27,466, equivalent to the first point on grade 07S G7 Standard for
Academic and Academic-related staff. The Junior Fellow may be offered residential
accommodation by the Oxford Centre for Hebrew and Jewish Studies at Yarnton Manor.

claims to intellectual property, and the proportions in which exploitation revenues are shared

Applications should comprise:
(i) a curriculum vitae.
(ii) a statement of proposed research and its relation to the candidate’s experience and
qualifications.
(iii) the names and contact details of three referees. Candidates could indicate the
capacity in which their referees have gained knowledge of their work and should
ask referees to send their letters of recommendation directly to the above
address by the same date.
It is anticipated that interviews will take place in late September/early October 2008. The
Centre will pay reasonable travel costs for interview where applicable. Initially, candidates
from overseas may be interviewed by telephone or video conference. The appointment will
be subject to satisfactory completion of a medical questionnaire and securing proof of the
right to work in the UK.
