I am Melvin B. Nisnisan, a laywer from the Philippines. I obtained my Master of Laws (LLM International Law) from Utrecht University in the Netherlands and am interested to pursue my PhD. The question of migration in the Pacific has caught my interest since it is one relevant and vibrant reality not only in the pacific but elsewhere. Aware of this phenomenon I want to conduct an in-depth study to quench my interest on the following issues

1. Why do people migrate?
2. Aside from economics (since most migrants legal or undocumented come from third world countries) what other underlying causes have to be dealt with by countries where these migrants flock to?
3. What are the legal issues rights of these migrants in relation to the country they migrate into?
4. Conversely, what are the legal obligations of their host countries
to put it this way?
5. What are the limits of these rights and these concommittant obligations?
6. What are the most effective ways of dealing with these phenomena?
