PhD POSITION Predicting Alzheimer’s disease: In vivo diagnosis from mouse model to human (M/F), (38 hours weekly)
Vacancy number: 8-145
Project description:
Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is the most common form of dementia in the elderly with no effective treatment or definitive antemortem diagnostic test. Identifying early biomarkers in vivo and understanding the biological processes which occur during AD onset and/or progression are urgently required to improve diagnosis and treatment of the disease.
As a part of recently prolonged CMSB2 program, the aim of this Ph.D study is to establish early MR imaging and MR spectroscopic biomarkers in mouse model of Alzheimer’s disease with the aim to translate them from mouse models to humans using 7T human MRI scanner and to correlate them with other biomarkers that will be identified in parallel collaborative studies and to understand whether these biomarkers (predictors) can forged into diagnostic and prognostic tools in combination with genetic markers using the biobanks.
What we seek:
For this position, we are searching for an ambitious candidate with a recent M.Sc. degree in Life Sciences, (Bio)chemistry and/or (Bio)physics. Experience with MRI, NMR or mouse studies is an advantage. The project is funded by Centre for Medical Systems Biology (CMSB) (one of the four Genomics Centers of Excellence recognized and financially supported by the Netherlands Genomics Initiative).
We offer you an appointment for a period of one year with a possibility for prolongation up to four years. The appointment must lead to the completion of a PhD thesis. The appointment is for 1.0 fte.
The gross monthly salary is € 2.000,- in the first year and increases progressively each year to € 2.558,- in the fourth year in accordance to the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities (CAO Nederlandse Universiteiten).
