London Research Institute – Four Year PhD Studentships
DESCRIPTION:
The Cancer Research UK London Research Institute (LRI) invites talented and motivated final year undergraduates or recent graduates to apply for four year PhD studentships.
The LRI is part of the largest independent cancer research organisation in the world and is committed to training the next generation of cancer research scientists. Our research groups, based in laboratories at Lincoln’s Inn Fields (Central London) and Clare Hall (just north of London), are well-resourced and benefit from state-of-the-art equipment and on-site scientific services.
Postgraduate students are at the core of our scientific community. To enable our students to develop into independent research scientists with excellent career prospects, we provide exciting and challenging research projects, a supportive environment, and tailored transferable skills training. A partnership with University College London provides additional academic and social facilities.
Applicants should be recent graduates or final year undergraduates who hold or expect to gain a first/upper second class honours degree or equivalent in a relevant subject and who have laboratory or research experience (either as part of or outside of a university degree course).
Shortlisted applicants will be invited to a three day interview programme, which will be held at Clare Hall from 26th to 28th January 2009 and at Lincoln’s Inn Fields from 28th to 30th January 2009.
Successful applicants will be awarded stipends of £17,740 (outer London) and £19,060 (inner London) for the first year, with annual increases thereafter. University tuition fees will also be paid by the LRI. Applications must be made online via our website:

My name is Dubeck, I was born in China in 1983, and graduated university in China got bachelor of science in biotechnology in 2006, I’ve got master’s degree of biology from the Kazakh National University named after L.N.Gumilev in capital Astana, in 2008. I’m citizen of Kazakhstan (a Central Asia developing country) from April in this year. I can speak in Kazakh, English and Chinese languages fluently, I have been working for the Immuno-biotechnology and immunochemistry lab of the National Center for Biotechnology of Republic of Kazakhstan for two years, for the requirement of my further work, I need to take training in developed country and study PhD if have opportunity. I had learned molecular immunology and worked with immunological techniques for several years and I’m very interesting in the molecular biology, particularly molecular principle in oncology now. I had read about signal transduction pathway and the role of cytokines in the cells. I have been attending a project at our center, the title of project is “Obtain monoclonal antibody to the breast cancer cell surface antigen”.
