Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship Application 2009
DEADLINE: DECEMBER 12, 2008
The Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship is awarded annually to Elgin Community students who have demonstrated an active interest and meaningful involvement in the areas of human rights, civil rights, social justice and/or world peace.
Scholarships may also be awarded to students whose activities are exemplary and reflective of the ideals and life of Dr. King.
Eligibility:
Must be a graduating student within the boundaries of School District U46
including private and parochial schools. (2008/2009 school year graduate)
Must possess a GPA of 2.5 or above
Must possess a clear judicial record
Must show sound character and leadership qualities
Must have a record of service to the community (church, school, girl/boy
scouts etc.)
Application Period/Timetable:
Distribution of application materials: October 3, 2008
Application Deadline: December 12, 2008
Committee review of applications: January 6, 2009
Committee interviews with top three applicants, January 9, 2009
Notification to award recipients, January 12, 2009
MLK program participation January 17/18, 2009
