The University of Rwanda is seeking applicants for Master’s Dissertation Research Grant programme. These grants are available for Ugandan applicants.

The main objective of the grant is to strengthen the capacity of Masters Students registered at the University of Rwanda to conduct a dissertation based research.

The University of Rwanda is a higher education institution formed in 2013 through the merger of Rwanda’s previously independent public institutions of higher education, the largest of which was the National University of Rwanda.

Course Level: These grants are available to pursue Masters Dissertation based Research programme.

Study Subject: These grants are awarded in the field of  Indigenous Knowledge Systems and Sustainable Development in Rwanda and East Africa.

Scholarship Award: These grants will cover the following:

  • The successful candidates will be supported in terms of Tuition fees at the UR and Dissertation research expenses.

Numbers of Scholarships: Two grants are available.

Scholarship can be taken in Rwanda

Eligibility: Applicants must meet the following eligibility requirements:

  • To register at the University of Rwanda.
  • Bachelor’s Degree with Honours, not less than Second Class Upper Division (Level 5 in the Rwandan qualifications Framework) or a qualification deemed equivalent in the broader field of study within which indigenous knowledge systems research will be located.
  • Evidence of academic excellence as indicated by an excellent grade point average (or degree classification) and involvement in intellectually stimulating extra-curricular activities.
  • In-depth understanding of research and research methodology
  • Fluency in Kinyarwanda and English is required, while knowledge of Swahili is required for those wishing to conduct research across East Africa.

Nationality: Rwandan applicants are eligible for these grants.

Entrance Requirement: Applicants must have Bachelor’s degree.

  • A full Curriculum Vitae
  • A letter of application for a dissertation research grant specifically indicating the subject of Indigenous Knowledge
  • A 500-word concept note with emphasis on Indigenous Knowledge Systems. The concept note should clearly establish a link between Indigenous Knowledge System and candidate’s specialization [Format of a Concept note is in Annex 1].
  • Evidence of an understanding of research methodology
  • The research plan and detailed budget
  • Research Publications (if any): Web links and/or Digital Object Identifier to be included
  • One recommendation letter from a senior academic familiar with the applicant’s academic history and interest in research
  • A complete application shall be submitted, to the Acting UR-Director of Research, Innovation, and Postgraduate studies (UR-DRIPGS).
