Master’s Scholarships for Public Policy and Good Governance (PPGG) for Students from Africa, Latin America, South Asia, Southeast Asia and Middle East in Germany

What are the objectives of the programme?

This programme is designed to academically qualify future leaders in politics, law, economics and administration according to the principles of Good Governance and to prepare them in a praxis-oriented course for their professional life. The programme offers very good graduates with a first university degree (Bachelor or equivalent) the chance to obtain a Master’s degree in disciplines that are of special relevance for the social, political and economic development of their home country. With the knowledge and experience acquired in Germany the scholarship holders should later contribute to the establishment of democratically devised economic and social systems aimed at overcoming social tensions. In addition, the training at German institutions of higher education should especially qualify the scholarship holders as partners in political and economic cooperation with Germany. With this programme, DAAD intends to contribute to the support of Good Governance and civil society structures in selected partner countries and regions.

Who can apply?

The scholarship scheme is open to candidates from Africa, Latin America, South Asia, Southeast Asia as well as from countries in the Middle East.

Target group

Very well qualified graduates with a first university degree (Bachelor or equivalent) who in the future want to actively contribute to the social and economic development of their home countries.

Deadline

Please do not apply now, but wait until DAAD has issued the list of Master courses selected for scholarships from 2010. The complete set of application papers must be submitted by 15 September 2009 in your home country .

    I will not say I failed 1000 times, I will say that I discovered there are 1000 ways that can cause failure. (Thomas Edison). I like this saying.

    I recently took TOFEL exam and i got 540 point. i have seen that what you are asking is minimum of 550. But i can take it again and score more and even 660 if i work more harder. it is all about being committed and working hard.

    I scored 3.34 in managemnt (BA). It is very hard to swallow when i think of myself that because my hand is too short when it comes to money, I am still not studing and my time tik tak tik tak… going on. Anyways God will help me. After all i am here with his help and i will be someone one day and will hold my dreams in my hand.

    Please consider me. It is my dream. I always tell mom that i am going to Ireland and get my MA and make you proud.

    I’m a Liberian who reside in Liberia and have earned a bachelor of Science in Economics from the University of Liberia since 2003. I have taught in Senior Secondary Schools in the areas of Economics for 8 years now in my country.

    I’m actually interested in obtaining a scholastic to get my Master in the area of Economics or other related areas so as to contribute my quota in the rebuilding process of my country. As you might have been informed, there was war fought in my country for about 13 years which reduced our human resource man power. My country has one of the lowest rate of educatiion in the world and as such, there’ll be a need for more Liberians to obtain higher education.

    I am from Nairobi Kenya and I have completed a Bsc (range management) from the University of Nairobi. This course mainly deals with dryland resouce ecology, management of natural resouces including,livestock and wildlife, and resouce economics.
    As known and accepted worlwide, over 60% of Africa is Rangelands, i.e. Lands which by virtue of physical limitations,e.g. very high temperatures,frequent floods and/or droughts,too slopy,rough topography, are unsutable for conventional agriculture but are non-the-less sources of resources such as wildlife,water (from very cold temperate counties which are also rangelands), forage and wood products in a perpetuated form.
    It’s for this reason that I wish to extend my scope of studies in sustainable environmental management,tourism and development, and thus looking for a scholarship that will give me the opportunity to study and learn to appreciate even more the broad array of natural resources that Africa and indeed the world exhibits not forgetting the increasing need to sensitize and educate people on the importance of natural resource (biodiversity) conservation, for if we destroy nature,then nature will destrioy us.

    The Ethiopian economy remains heavily dependent on agriculture, which accounts for about 50 percent of the GDP. An estimated 85% of the population gains its livelihood directly or indirectly from agricultural production. Coffee exports accounts for more than 65 percent of foreign exchange earnings, while processed and semi-processed hides and skins are the second important foreign exchange earners.
    The level of development of the manufacturing sector in Ethiopia is at its infancy; and the country’s industrial base is very low. The share of intermediate and capital goods industry is very insignificant. The industrial sector is heavily dependent on imports of semi-processed goods, raw materials, spare -parts and fuel. In addition to imported inputs, the factories depend upon backward and subsistence agriculture for their raw material demand.
    It is only fourteen years since Ethiopia began moving from a state run economy to the market economy. The country is in the process of taking various reform measures.
    The industries include food processing and beverages, automotive industries which include production of components and parts, textile and textile products and garments, leather and leather products, fertilizers (mini-Plant) and chemicals, drugs and pharmaceuticals are some among others.
    The “service” sector which consists of Trade, Transport and Communications, Banking, Insurance and Real State, Public Administration and Defense, Education, Health and Domestic and other personal services has increased
    The government has initiated a privatization program since 1995/96. Since this period of time, 85% of 909 factories have been privatized. However the number of manufacturing industries at the verge of the EPRDF led government was 283 operating only 20% of their manufacturing capacity compared with 70% currently.
    The government uses different mechanisms to guide the economy on the right track which lead it to the way of development. Among the others, helping the private sector to be the leader in the free market economy is the crucial one. The Development Bank of Ethiopia provides long, medium & short term loan with technical supports for privet sector on behalf of the government.

I am graduated BA degree in Economics with 3.09 average cumulative point from Hawassa University, Ethiopia in 2006. I am working in Development Bank of Ethiopia as a Loan Officer. I also have another BA degree in foreign language and literature (English Education) together with six years of teaching experience from elementary to preparatory classes.     I have been working with this Research Institution since 1993 to date as a Senior Laboratory Technologist. In 2001, I completed a two year course of Advanced Diploma in Medical Laboratory Sciences (specialized in Parasitology and Medical Entomology) at the Muhimbili University of health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS) by then was known as Muhimbili University College of health Sciences (MUCHS)

    Last year i.e 2008, I was offered a place to pursue MSc -Research/PhD in Biomedical Sciences (Biology of Cancer) in the school of Biomedical Sciences at the University of Liverpool, UK.

    I tried to look for scholarship/sponsorships but I didn’t get any assistance financially. This year (during this academic year 2009/2010) the Liverpool school authority has nominated me again to pursue the same course.

    I therefore, ask you to assist me financially to meet the school required tuition fee (pounds 12,000), bench fee (pounds 3,000.
    Bench fee in years 2-4 will be ponds 6,000 = pounds 18,000.

    The course is of 4 years and this offer is a conditional one (i.e. it depends on the availability of funds) Also, the course commences on 21st September,2009

    I hope that, my financial request will be considered as this course is very important not only to me but also to my institute (NIMR), country and the World at large.

    My name is abba achi edgard from ivory coast.I frequent to the classical secondary school of Abidjan,in terminal D,the best fouth secondary school of Abidjan,with of better results in hight school diploma,Because the level of teaching is strict and hard.
    I’m well enough in ours subjects,so polyvalant.But,check especially in mathematics and physics with 12 average by quarter since the class of second C.
    I need this scholarship,because at first,in ivory coast,there are a single public university in abidjan,which contains students over much,besides teachers are on strike repeated each year.So,the students with diploms stay without jobs,perhaps because of old persons refusing retire.It’s very hard to get a real diplom because of corruption.However,these students are obliged to exercise profession pitiful for starvation wages.
    Finally,i want this scholarship to be able to help my familly while i’ll get job,because,i’m the one who made a sucess in studies.I believe that it’s the real big luck which you offer me,so i’ve now 20 years old,because of lack of financial.I start shool so late.
