PhD Studentship or Postdoctoral Position
in the field of theoretical chemistry and computational physics.
The research will be focused on the development and application of ab-initio based multiscale methods to accurately describe the structure of polymer/metal and polymer/oxide interfaces and the diffusion mechanism of ions along and close to the interface as a guide for future material design. Adhesion of polymers on inorganic materials is important in a wide range of applications from packaging to aerospace with increasing demands on performance and durability.
The Advanced Study Group is part of the newly established Interdisciplinary Centre for Advanced Materials Simulation – ICAMS at the Ruhr-University Bochum, however, work will be mainly performed at the Max-Planck-Institute for Iron Research in Düsseldorf in the Department of Interface Chemistry and Surface Engineering and the Department for Computational Materials Design.
The successful candidate should have a degree in Physics, Chemistry or Materials Science, and have a strong interest in atomistic/molecular simulations. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in any (or several) of the following fields: electronic structure calculations, density functional theory, empirical potentials, molecular dynamics, parameterisation of atomistic and coarse-grained force fields, simulation of polymer structures. Good communication skills (English and German) and enthusiasm to collaborate in an interdisciplinary team with experimental colleagues and industrial partners are required.
