MPhil/PhD Studentship Crystallisation Engineering (Up to 3 years)

The studentship covers university fees at the UK/EU level and an annual stipend, currently £12,940 per annum. The manufacture of pharmaceutical and fine chemicals involves purification and recovery by crystallisation. Many materials exist in several forms including polymorphs, solvates and hydrates, which can display different performance characteristics such as solubility. The project aims to examine the conditions of crystallisation that favour the production of hydrates and solvates. The work will use a combination of experimental investigation, molecular visualisation and analytical techniques to determine the influence of solvent composition on the solid material following crystallisation. Applicants should have a minimum of a 2:1 Honours degree or Masters Degree in Chemistry, Pharmacy, Chemical Engineering or another related discipline. The studentship covers university fees at the UK/EU level and an annual stipend, currently ?12,940 per annum for full-time study up to three years. The student will join the Materials and Drug Delivery Research Group, registering initially for the award of MPhil.
