Job Description: Applications are invited for a full-time studentship available in the Centre for Professional Ethics. The studentship is tenable for up to 3 years for a PhD (via MPhil route) [subject to satisfactory progress]. The studentship will cover the cost of tuition fees at UK/EU rates plus a stipend (currently £13,590 for 2010/11) per annum. International applicants may apply but will be required to pay the difference between UK/EU and international fees. The successful applicant will start on 1 October 2010.

Project Description: The Centre for Professional Ethics is pleased to announce the availability of a full-time MPhil/PhD Studentship in Global Ethics for the October 2010 intake. The Centre is an internationally known research institution formed in 1993 (www.uclan.ac.uk/cpe). We are looking for a highly motivated student with a strong interest in applied ethics, and in particular in global issues. The following are examples for eligible fields of research:

o Human Rights and Health
o Ethical Issues of Emerging Technologies in Developing Countries
o Benefit Sharing
o International Research Ethics
o Global Science & Technology Policy
o Science & Technology Policy in Developing Countries
o Global Ethical Governance

Applicants should have, or expect to receive, a second class (upper division) honours degree or above and a Master’s degree (or equivalent qualification) in a related discipline.
