Norway PhD Research Fellowship at University of Bergen
At the Department of Chemistry ( http://www.kj.uib.no/ ) a 3-year position as Research Fellow is available from 1 September 2008 (or earlier) in the field of petroleum chemistry/acoustics within the project “Epsilon multiphase flow measurement”.
The PhD work will focus on collecting chemical, electrical and physical fluid data for representative petroleum production wellstream systems and analysing the correlation between them, in order to establish fluid property models that can result in more reliable and accurate interpretation of the inputs to multiphase meters. The focus will be on frequency dependent models for calculation of complex permittivity for fluid mixtures that are present during the production of hydrocarbons by the petroleum industry. The models will be used to increase the accuracy and reliability of the measurements under a wide range of flow conditions. One topic of high interest is the effects of commonly used process enhancing additives on the electromagnetic properties of the production fluids. The work will address both chemical and physical aspects of the systems, and the project requires integration of elements from several research fields.

The research fellow must take part in the University’s approved PhD programme leading to the degree within a time limit of 3 years. Application for admission to the PhD programme, including a project plan outline for the training module, will be worked out in collaboration with the research group in question.
The fellowship period may be reduced if the successful applicant has held previous employment as research fellow.
Applicants must have achieved a master’s degree or equivalent in chemistry, petroleum technology or physics, or have submitted their master thesis for assessment by the application deadline. It is a prerequisite, however, that the formal admission requirements for the PhD programme are met before appointment can be made.
The applicant should possess good cooperation and communication skills.
State employment shall reflect the multiplicity of the population at large to the highest
