THE OLYMPIC SCHOLARSHIP:Leeds Olympic programme: In 2008 the University of Leeds, UK, launched its Leeds Olympic programme and a new Olympic Scholarship aimed at supporting students aspiring to represent their country at the Olympics. The first Olympic Scholarship was awarded to Alistair Brownlee.
The Scholarship is provided to support aspiring Olympians in their academic and sporting lives throughout their time at University. These scholarships are open to any student in any year studying any subject. Students receive services according to an agreed action plan but these will usually comprise:
- assignment of a performance manager
- access to performance lifestyle support and performance services
- strength and conditioning coaching
- onsite physiotherapy and massage
- sports science support in the areas of physiology, biomechanics and psychology
- free gym membership
- financial support of £750
opportunities may exist for academic flexibility and/or part time study
