PhD position in Engineering Science with specialisation in Electronics – RF devices
at the Ångström Laboratory, Department of Engineering Sciences, Division of Solid State Electronics. Starting date: as soon as possible.
The solid-state device group at the Ångström laboratory is doing research aiming at developing new Radio-Frequency (RF) devices, with a focus on power transistors for the L and S-band (the lower GHz frequency range). Of particular importance to this work is the understanding and development of tailored substrates for these power transistors. The research group has recently started a new project where it has been shown that it is possible to combine silicon and silicon carbide to form a new and improved substrate for RF-device technologies. More information about the research can be found at: www.teknik.uu.se/fte/comp/.
The PhD student project represents a further development and optimization of new substrates and RF-device technologies. The work includes manufacturing of substrates, fabrication of test structures and transistors, as well as computer simulations in order to design transistors with a state-of-the-art performance.
The successful candidate should have a master of science in engineering physics/electrical engineering or equivalent and a strong motivation for doing research in microelectronics. Good knowledge in Semiconductor Physics, Solid State Physics, Microwave Theory as well as programming skills and motivation for experimental work will be considered advantageous. Good skills in oral and written English are required.
The PhD position is for four years, extendable to a maximum of five years including departmental duties at a level of at most 20% (typically teaching). Further information: http://www.teknat.uu.se and http://www.teknik.uu.se . In order to be eligible for this position, the candidate has to be admitted or in the process of being admitted as a PhD student at Uppsala university.
The department is striving to achieve a more equal gender balance and female candidates are particularly invited to apply.
Applications should include a brief description of research interest and past experience, a CV, copies of exams, degrees and grades, a copy of your Master thesis (or a draft thereof) and other relevant documents. The candidates are encouraged to provide letter(s) of recommendation and contact information to reference persons.
