Open positions: 1 PhD scholarship

Centre of Mathematics for Applications (CMA) is funded as a ‘Centre of Excellence’ by the Research Council of Norway. Read more about CMA here.

We hereby invite applications for one PhD scholarship (Ref.nr. 2009/2130)

  • The position is available from April 1, 2009, but the start date may be delayed if necessary.
  • Applications with all necessary enclosures must be received by March 13, 2009

The main vision of CMA is to create a national research centre in mathematics where top class scientists from different areas can work together with a joint perspective and common goals. The main focus is on mathematics motivated from applications, with emphasis on problems arising from modern scientific computing. The activity in the centre is built upon 4 different research areas: geometry, stochastic analysis, differential equations and applications in the physical sciences (mainly within astrophysics and computational quantum mechanics). The centre specifically focuses on research activities on the boundaries and intersections of these areas.

A phd position in insurance mathematics is now available. The position will be granted for 3 years, and is dedicated to the research area of life insurance. Applicants must document mathematical qualifications which are relevant for life insurance, with special emphasis towards stochastic analysis.  The research activity will be a collaboration between the center and the insurance mathematics group at Department of Mathematics, Section C.

Applications must include complete information about education at both bachelor and master level, and documented scientific experience. All employees must satisfy the entrance requirements for the doctoral degree programme at the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences. Women are especially encouraged to apply.
