The MRC Human Genetics Unit
(Director: Professor Nick Hastie, CBE, FRS) is one of the largest MRC establishments in the UK.
Its role is to advance the understanding of genetic factors implicated in human disease and normal and abnormal development. The Unit’s programmes of work cover the themes of population genetics, developmental genetics, epigenetics, chromosome biology, RNA biology and models for human genetic diseases. Details of research programmes are available at:www.hgu.mrc.ac.uk/Research/ We are well resourced and have an active and demanding PhD programme, with about 30 PhD students in total within the Unit, funded both from MRC and elsewhere. The Institute of Genetics and Molecular Medicine (IGMM)
Is directed by Professor Nick Hastie, CBE, FRS (www.igmm.ac.uk). This is an exciting partnership between the Medical Research Council Human Genetics Unit, Edinburgh University’s Molecular Medicine Centre, and the Edinburgh Cancer Research Centre.
The IGMM’s priorities are basic through to clinical research across the themes of population genetics and the genetics of common, complex diseases; brain biology and disease; paediatrics and cancer. Studentship projects will be collaborative across two partner organisations.
