Ozone Deposition Flux to Ocean Waters - 2 years

The closing date for receipt of applications is 23rd May, 2008.

The Centre for Climate & Air Pollution Studies (C-CAPS) in NUI Galway’s Environmental Change Institute focuses on the impact of atmospheric composition on climate change and air pollution. Research activities include aerosol formation and transformation, aerosol-cloud-climate interactions, atmospheric chemistry, air-sea exchange of aerosols and gases, air-quality and health, ocean acidification, ocean dynamics and climate change. Researchers at C-CAPS are involved in remote sensing of aerosols and clouds, aerosol and gas air-sea flux measurements, in-situ observations, process modelling and regional (ocean-atmosphere) climate and air quality modelling. Large scale facilities include the GAW/EMEP supersite Mace Head and a wide range of state of the art equipment.

The research focuses on ozone deposition to oceanic waters as part of a large-scale project funded by Ireland’s EPA : Exchange at the Air-Sea Interface: Air Quality & Climate Impacts. The researcher will conduct gradient and eddy correlation ozone flux measurements at the Mace Head Atmospheric Research Station near Galway on the Atlantic coast. Responsibilities will include continuous data evaluation and model assisted interpretation, sensor calibration and intercomparison, and continuous assessment and optimisation of the measurement methods. The research post is funded for 2 years.

Requirements:
We seek an individual with experience in measurements of boundary layer dynamics and/or air-sea exchange processes. Knowledge of flux measurement techniques (gradient, eddy correlation) would be desirable.

Salary scale: €40,578 – 44,505, commensurate with qualifications and experience.

To Apply:
Interested candidates should send a detailed CV with covering letter, and the names of 2-3 referees via email to the Principal Investigator, Prof. Harald Berresheim (harald.berresheim@nuigalway.ie).

Further details about the post may be obtained from harald.berresheim@nuigalway.ie.
