PD Position in Citizenship and Religion
February 1, 2010The Graduate School of Theology and Religious Studies of the University of Groningen is looking for a PhD candidate (0,9 fte) for the project ‘Religion and Good Citizenship’.The position is related to a larger research programm of the Institute for Integration and Social Efficacy (ISE). The institute ISE aims to contribute to the integration and social efficacy in society through scientific knowledge gathered from the perspectives of social, organizational, and cross-cultural psychology. It bridges scientific research with applied topics in the field of social integration, diversity, and social efficacy both in organizations and the society as a whole.The research concerns the relationship between religion and citizenship. Envisaged is a PhD thesis based on interdisciplinary research, combining research on the literature concerning the values and virtues that undergird good citizenship with concrete case studies on the position of Dutch religious communities regarding good citizenship. The final form of the PhD project will be determined in consultation with the PhD candidate. Because of the project’s strong focus on the Dutch context, a good command of Dutch is indispensable.
Requirements
We are looking for enthusiastic candidates with a Master’s degree or equivalent, in a (sub)discipline in which the doctoral study will take place. The degree must have been obtained within a reasonable period of time and with results that justify the expectation that the student will be able to successfully complete the programme in four years.
Candidates must have sufficient knowledge of the Dutch language.
Furthermore, candidates must have sufficient knowledge of English: a TOEFL score of at least 625 (paper), 263 (computer) or 113 (internet), or a minimum score of 7.5 in IELTS (International English Language Testing System) is required.
Salary etc.
The University of Groningen offers a salary of minimal € 2,042 gross a month in the first year to maximal € 2,612 a month in the final year based on a full-time position. It is a temporary assignment for a period of 4 years. First, you will get a temporary position of 1,5 years with the perspective of prolongation with another 2,5 years. After the first year, there will be an evaluation as to the feasibility of successful completion of the PhD thesis within the next three years.
