Job description:
“Indoor Space – Architecture, Benchmarking and Space”
The PhD stipend is available within the general study programme “Planning and Development”
Job description:
Today there is an increasing need for knowledge concerning the use of buildings, who uses them and why are they used in the way they are. With this background, there is a need for the development of general research based evaluation methods and quality parameters, for the assessment of activities and usage of sports, recreational, and cultural buildings. Further to these needs, a PhD position is announced in cooperation with SBi, the Department of Architecture and Design and The Danish Foundation for Culture and Sports Facilities.
The purpose of the PhD fellow position is develop evaluation techniques and quality parameters for the use of completed sports, recreational and cultural buildings, and which will later be applicable for other types of buildings. This is especially the case for the development of new types of buildings with new functions, where there is very little or no existing knowledge available, in the development phases among the involved partners. It is also the case where it gives the implicated actors an opportunity to judge whether they have got “their moneys worth” – a situation that is often not present today. Based on this it can be proven that a development of general research based methods of evaluation and parameters of quality are needed for the assessment of activities and use of sports, recreational and cultural buildings.
The project will comprise three phases: An analysis and systematic mapping of state-of-the-art national and international evaluation methods and quality parameters; the development of a set of evaluation methods and quality parameters; and a test of evaluation methods and quality parameters on two cases, in order to practically contribute to fulfilling the need for knowledge in this area.
Background and expertise:
The PhD fellow position is organisationally anchored in the Department of Architecture and Design, Aalborg University, where some teaching will occur and the test case survey will be conducted. It will be possible to carry out part of the positions activities from The Danish Building Research Institute (SBi), Aalborg University as the primary cases used in the research project will be in the Copenhagen area.
