PhD FELLOWSHIP at the Biotechnology Centre at the University of Oslo

A PhD position is available in the Functional Genomics and Molecular Imaging Laboratory at the Biotechnology Centre (BiO) at the University of Oslo (UoO). The position will be placed as SKO 1017, with salary range depending on qualifications: 45-50 (353 000 – 384 700). The position is for 3 years. The preferred start is as early as possible. UoO requires that all employees sign an agreement regarding acquisition of right to work results that are produced by the employee.

Project
The Biotechnology Centre at the University of Oslo is a centre for molecular biology, biotechnology and bioinformatics within the University of Oslo. The centre is devoted to research and post-graduate training and with an overall vision to address cell signalling mechanisms relevant to disease. The Functional Genomics and Molecular Imaging Laboratory is investigating membrane proteins involved in the recycling of neurotransmitters, see e.g. following papers: Chaudhry et al, Handb Exp Pharmacol, 2008; Boulland et al., Cereb Cortex, 2008; Jenstad et al, Cereb Cortex, 2008; Solbu et al., J Am Soc Nephrol, 2005; Chaudhry et al., Cell, 1999. The candidate will be required to carry out research to identify the molecular mechanisms responsible for the functional diversity among some families of amino acid transporters and reveal their functional regulation as well as their roles in the pathogenesis of diseases of the brain and other organs.

The candidate
Strong academic background and with practical experience in biochemical and molecular biological techniques is required. In particular, the candidate should have training in IP, GST pulldown, western blots etc. Candidates with additional education in mass spectrometry, proteomics and experience in characterizing transgenic mice will be preferred. Highly motivated individuals holding a MSc in biochemistry/molecular biology or equivalent who enjoys working in an international and interactive environment are welcome to apply.
