The Department of Pharmacology at the Medical School (A/Prof Gerald Münch)invites applications for a Masters or Ph.D. project on “Anti-inflammatory and neuroprotective compounds from food and plant libraries” , which starts in early 2009. Our program offers attractive research and education possibilities in molecular pharmacology, cellular and molecular biology. The research focus of the program is to understand how inflammatory processes are contributing to neuronal cell in models of Alzheimer’s disease, and how these processes can be ameliorated by novel therapeutic drugs isolated from foods and plants. We are seeking highly motivated, independent and creative graduates. Admission to the program is based on a competitive selection procedure, and candidates are expected to be among the top qualifying students. Applicants require a degree in biology, pharmacy, biochemistry or a related degree (Honours, Masters by coursework) and ideally – one year research experience and at least one publication in a peer-reviewed journal.
