PhD Fellowship (Ref.No. JSMC?30/2009) on the topic
Transcriptional profiling in human sepsis and identification of pathogenetic factors of multiple
organ dysfunction
Sepsis results from the host response to infection. While a localized inflammation is mandatory to control infection, its
systemic progression promotes remote organ dysfunction and death. Methods of cellular and molecular biology, such as
bead?chip array technology and silencing of differentially expressed transcripts associated with unfavourable outcome
will be used to study impact of newly identified genes and identify novel adjunctive therapeutic targets for lifethreatening
infection.
We expect:
- a Master’s degree (or equivalent) in Natural or Life Sciences (e.g., Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Medical
Sciences, etc.). Candidates about to earn their degree are welcome to apply.
- high motivation and interest to join one of the interdisciplinary research areas of JSMC
- creativity and interest to shape your own thesis project
- an integrative and cooperative personality
- very good communication skills in English (instruction language at JSMC)
