PhD ihydrogeology: Potential impacts of climate change on zones vulnerable to saline intrusions
Description : A research project focusing on saline intrusions and climate change will be conducted in partnership with the Geological Survey of Canada. The objective is to understand the hydrodynamics of the selected regions, but also to provide tools (including numerical models, aquifer property maps and an electrical conductivity/salinity map) in support of management and protection of these aquifers.

Two types of numerical models will be used to simulate fresh / saline water interface and changes resulting from climate change scenarios: a ‘commercial’ subsurface model and an in-house coupled model. The Ph.D. thesis will focus in particular on the update and development of the coupled model, and on its application. Fieldwork will also be carried out. Applications could include a “classical” intrusion related to ocean encroachment (actual or eventual, resulting from climate change) and a “continental” intrusion due to salt dissolution within a bedrock formation.

Possibilities of internships in Europe (France or Italy)

MSc in hydrogeology, geological or civil engineering, having a strong interest and skills in computer programming. Mastering of French language a definitive advantage.
