Three full-time PhD scholarships are available in Biological Sciences at Macquarie University, in conjunction with the National Climate Change Adaptation Facility (NCCARF) – Terrestrial Biodiversity Network.

Project Description:

These scholarships will support research aimed at developing explicit and practical strategies that increase the resilience of terrestrial ecosystems and maximise their adaptive potential under climate change. Topics of projects include (but are not limited to):

  • Development of risk assessment frameworks for Australian species and communities
  • Identification of vulnerability hotspots of Australia’s biodiversity
  • Quantification of adaptive capacity of species to extreme events (involving both computer modelling and an experimental component)
  • Development and testing of alternative management strategies to increase resilience of species and natural systems
  • - Dynamic conservation planning in the light of climate change

Applicants are also invited to discuss their own research agendas with potential supervisors. However, research must be relevant to areas investigating climate change adaptation for terrestrial biodiversity.

The 2010 MQRES full-time stipend rate is $22,500 pa tax exempt for 3.5 years.
