Job Description: Wales has a high incidence of mental health problems, evidenced by high levels of prescription of anti-depressants and other treatment. Much of this has a direct impact on the productivity of Wales’ workforce – either directly through sickness absence or indirectly through negative impact at work. Wales does not have a concerted approach to meeting this challenge with proactive engagement with employers and employees to address problems before they result in diagnosable conditions. The proposed research will provide a novel approach to this topic and will be both intellectually challenging and will require development of a range of skills that are essential for translational research. This combination of a strong intellectual challenge combined with service delivery can be seen in the main features of the project. The project will seek to:
Research and identify the key challenges facing employees and employers;
Develop a set of evidenced assessment tools that allow for swift employee self-help, employer interventions and workplace improvements;
Build these tools in an e-service platform deployed by Connect Assist;
Test these assessments in a range of employment situations in West Wales and the Valleys;
Create and develop a training programme for use by employers and professionals based in West Wales and the Valleys;
Make these assessment tools available to employers.
It is anticipated that the successful applicant will spend time working with the industrial partner during the three year period of the PhD.
This application for KESS funding is a separate process from applying to Cardiff University for a PhD place. Only students who have applied to Cardiff University for a PhD are able to apply for KESS funding. You can apply to the University and for KESS funding at the same time.
