Korean Governments including Ministry of Education and Ministry of Ocean and Fisheries are funding PhD/Master’s Positions at Pukyong National University, Korea. Studentship covers monthly stipend plus tuition fee and is available from September 1st, 2013. Students must be good in writing and communication skills in English. Study Subject(s): The students will be involved in one of projects
– (1) the development of novel chemometric methods based on Near-Infrared/Mid-Infrared spectroscopy regarding biofuel production and (2) Modeling of biofuel production processes, related economic analysis, and process optimization.
Course Level: This studentship is for pursuing Master’s or PhD degree level at Pukyong National University, Busan Korea.

Eligibility: -The successful candidates for both positions will have a strong background in statistics/mathematics and computer programming (C++ and/or MATLAB).
-In addition, familiarity with commercial/academic software (Simca-P, Aspen plus/HYSYS) would be advantage.
-They also will be fluent in English, have good writing and communication skills, and have reasonable laboratory experience.

Scholarship Description: Two positions are open (for Master and/or Ph.D students) in the Intelligent Systems Laboratory, Pukyong National UniversityDepartment of Chemical Engineering, at Pukyong National University available from September 1st, 2013. The students will be involved in one of the projects – (1) the development of novel chemometric methods based on Near-Infrared/Mid-Infrared spectroscopy regarding biofuel production and (2) Modeling of biofuel production processes, related economic analysis, and process optimization.
The scopes of projects are as follows:
(1) Development of soft-sensor for estimation of biomass feedstock compositions Development of monitoring system for biofuel production Development of statistical quality control methods for biofuel products
(2) Process modeling of bio- and thermo-chemical conversion of biomass using process simulators Techno-economic analysis of biofuel production Integration of biofuel production processes using numerical optimization Front End Engineering and Design of biorefinery.
