Ph.D. / M.Sc. Students – Fracture of Materials
Description : Graduate student positions are presently available to study the fracture properties of metals. The goal of the research is to elucidate the effect of microstructure (grain orientation, twinning) and lengthscale (from the nanoscale to the macroscale) on fracture. Students will use cutting edge experimental techniques such as ultrafast laser micromachining, x-ray tomography, digital image correlation, and modelling tools such as the finite element method. They also will have the opportunity to be involved in interdisciplinary research through interactions with the physics department and international research groups. The university of Ottawa is a bilingual research intensive university located in Canada’s Capital, a multicultural and vibrant city, famous for its museums, art galleries and green spaces. Applications will be considered until the positions are filled in the Spring and/or Fall 2009. I find your email in scholarship website .I think I can be the best choice because of I think your advises can be very useful for my PHD proposal and finally my thesis topic .My main research interest is spot welding and I work in an automobile research center in Tehran-Iran and I graduated in field of welding from Sharif Industrial University in Master course with this subject:
“Optimizing spot weld electrodes Tip Dressing in automobile’s body to prevent decreasing the mechanical strength of spot welds with regression.”.
As you know crash test is done to determined the strength of body and the impact test and ITT test are done for the same reason. I like to have an investigation about validating the result of simulation of crash test with impact test and have a relation between the result of crash test and behavior of spot welds in impact test.
Please do me a favor and send me your guidelines or useful documents. Also it would be ideal for me if I can spend my Phd thesis in your university and your advices.Also I prefer to do what kind of project you advice.

I have 4+years experience to working with catia (Sheet metal, Core & cavity design, Part design, Assembly, Free style, Drafting, Shape Design, Analysis & simulation, mold Tooling design , Machining , DMU Mockup), solid work, power mill (NC-File), Mold flow (FEM-plastics), Deform (forging-machining).
I have an experience to simulating die wear in the forging process, Tool wear in the turning, boring, milling and heat treatment simulation (tempering-CCT-TTT).
My master project is bonding metal to composite simulation with ABAQUS.
