Unique Opportunities for Research on Marine Control Systems, Ships and Ocean Structures – for PhD or Postdoctoral Fellows

CeSOS would like to invite applications for:

# CoE4/08: Post doctor in Marine Control Systems (duration of 1-2 years)
In order to carry out this project, we are looking for a candidate with a PhD degree in systems and control or marine technology, and a strong background or interest in marine control systems. The candidate is expected to be interested in fundamental research and in working on the boundary of several research domains. The candidate should also be prepared to work with PhD students, give seminars at the PhD level, and to work with other researchers in a multi-disciplinary research group.

# CoE5/08: PhD fellowship in Manoeuvring and Control of Marine Vehicles (duration of 3 years)
Professor Thor I. Fossen has one open PhD position in marine control systems for prospective graduate students. The general research theme involves theoretical and experimental study of marine vessels in waves with emphasis on advanced motion control for ships and unmanned marine vehicles. This includes control of highly maneuverable and underactuated vehicles, collision avoidance methods, and formation control. Considered motion control scenarios include target tracking as well as path following, tracking, and maneuvering. The interested applicants must have a Master?s degree in one of the areas of electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, control systems, marine technology or applied mathematics, and a strong background in systems, linear and nonlinear control theory, and mathematics. A good command of the English language is required.

# CoE6/08: PhD fellowship in Offshore Floating Wind Turbine Modelling and Control (duration of 3 years)
Professor Mogens Blanke has one open PhD position in marine control systems for prospective graduate students. The general research theme includes theoretical and experimental studies of marine vehicles and systems with emphasis on control aspects, including fault-tolerance and -diagnosis for dependable operation of autonomous or remotely located systems. This call addresses modeling and control of floating-structure-mounted wind turbines, where dynamic effects, control of turbine blade pitch, and electrical power production interact in linear and nonlinear ways. The interested applicants must have a Master?s degree in one of the areas of electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, control systems, marine technology or applied mathematics, and a strong background in systems, linear and nonlinear control theory, and mathematics. A good command of the English language is required.
The fellowship period for doctoral studies will be 3 years. A fourth year as teaching assistant is optional. The annual gross salary for doctoral students will normally be NOK 353 200, but could in special cases be higher based upon qualifications, and will be increased according to normal salary policy.
Post doctors and researchers will normally be engaged for a one or two year period, with a possibility of extension contingent upon the results achieved in the period. The gross salary for post doctors will normally be NOK 435 700 to NOK 496 300.
