PhD Position Academisch Medisch Centrum The Nederland
June 8, 2008
This is a full-time appointment (36 hours /week). The contract will be limited to a total of 4 years and has to be completed with a successful defence of a PhD thesis.
A growing number of children are exposed to medicines that act upon the central nervous system. Curiously enough most of these medicines have only been tested in adults, and therefore little is known about their side effects in children. This project investigates the long-term effects of several medicines on brain development. The hypothesis is that they influence normal outgrowth of the brain. Molecular mechanisms that control neuroadaptational processes will be analyzed using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), pharmacological MRI (phMRI) in particular. The candidate is expected to manage, perform and analyse (ph)MRI studies. This project is a collaboration with the MRC Clinical Sciences Centre, Imperial College London, UK where the candidate will be able to spend one year working on phMRI.
We are looking for a highly motivated candidate with a (nearly) completed masters degree in medicine, medical biology, (bio)medical engineering, physics or neuroscience. Independent and a well-structured working style with well-developed social skills directed to work in a team are essential, as well as an excellent proficiency of the English language.
A challenging project to work on within an inspiring clinical environment, as member of the young neurotoxicity group with a strong multidisciplinary and international approach and excellent facilities. Gross compensation will be according to standard salary levels for PhD students starting with a salary of € 2007,- with a yearly growth to € 2572,- gross a month.
