PhD position (biophysicist / electrophysiologist) at the Institute of Applied Physiology, Ulm University
Our group combines electrophysiological and optical techniques to study calcium signalling in mammalian myocytes. The focus is on assessing functional changes in cells with genetic alterations in the calcium release control mechanism (e.g. Andronache et al. PNAS 104, 17885-17890, 2007).
Methods available in the lab include voltage clamp, micro-fluorimetry, confocal microscopy, calcium imaging, flash-photolysis, contraction measurements, cell culture, microinjection.
Our institute offers excellent research and training conditions and close interaction with other groups specialized in the molecular physiology of ion channels and hereditary neuromuscular diseases.
The city of Ulm is located at the Danube river in the midst of one of South Germany’s most pleasant landscapes and not far from the capitals Munich and Stuttgart.
The candidate should be skilled in biophysical experimentation and quantitative data analysis. Applicants with additional good knowledge in computer programming will be preferred.
