PhD position “NLP-based quality assessment for e-Learning”
The Ubiquitous Knowledge Processing (UKP) Lab has an opening for a PhD position in the field of “NLP-based quality assessment for e-Learning”. Recent trends towards community-based learning using informal, user-generated sources like Blogs and Wikis in free combination with formal content like course readers has provided new momentum to NLP techniques for automatic quality assessment, typically using machine learning. The applicant will study linguistic properties of collaborative content and evaluate the applicability of existing quality assessment techniques to this domain. S/he will develop, implement, and evaluate new/extended NLP techniques that support learners in finding high-quality content.
The successful applicants will join the UKP Lab situated in the Department of Computer Science, Technische Universitaet Darmstadt, Germany. The UKP features a dynamic work environment, a highly motivated and integrated research team, an industrial cooperation network, and was distinguished by several research awards since its establishment in summer 2006. The applicant’s research will be conducted within an interdisciplinary Research Training Program (RTP) on E-Learning 2.0 funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG). The program emphasizes research on quality improvement in E-learning processes based on feedback loops. 16 PhD students and two PostDoc researchers work together in this RTP based on DFG funding, along with about a dozen faculty and their respective research groups.
Requirements:
* The applicants should have a strong background in NLP and/or Computer Science and possess the ability to conduct substantial research.
* S/he will work towards a PhD in Computer Science from the Technische Universitaet Darmstadt and should have an excellent degree in computer science or a related discipline.
* Strong programming skills in Java, a keen research interest and a strong ability to cooperate with group members are essential.

* your CV with details of past research experience
* publication list
* the names of three referees
Applications should be sent in by August, 31st, 2008

Dear Sir / Madam,
I have completed my MS Computer Engineering Program from ‘Center for Advance Studies in Engineering’ (CASE). This is a well reputed institute in Pakistan. In this program I have faced many challenges and done my semester projects with my practical knowledge and skills.
I have been involved in research in computer networks. It is my preferred area of specialization. Network is a fast growing field with frequently arising challenges. I want to delve deep into the research computer networks. To this end Higher Studies in computer networks is the perfect opportunity for me to get involved in cutting edge networks research.
I wish to follow it up with a PhD, to pursue a career in research and teaching and hence experience the excitement and satisfaction of being at the forefront of this important and ever-expanding field. My specific areas of interest in computer networks include grid computing, wired and wireless network security, security protocols for sensor networks, routing protocols in sensor networks, adhoc networks, and real-time video streaming in mobile networks etc….
Note: Please Guide me how can i get scholarship…related to my field and which university is offering such related Ph.Ds programs..
Thanks and Regards
