PhD Position, ETH Zürich, Integrated Systems Laboratory
Nanoelectronic systems for the wireless communication is one of the research topics of the Integrated Systems Laboratory at ETH Zürich.
The topic of the project is the development and evaluation of multi-user multi-antenna (MIMO) systems.
The realization of such systems requires effective trade-offs between theoretically optimal algorithms and the real implementation, that leads to competitive chip area while still providing near-optimal quality. The development of such complex systems requires extremely flexible testbeds with FPGAs to emulate the digital circuits. These testbeds are used for the verification of the algorithms and for measurements of the attainable quality. Only circuits verified in this way can lead to first-time-right ASICs.
The first tasks are an adaptation of the existing testbed with view of the multi-user experiments, the preparation, and the conduction of these measurements. The know-how from this activity builds the basis for a dissertation on an interesting problem of the multi-user MIMO communication and its elegant solution on silicon.
We offer an exciting and challenging position in a dynamic team of microelectronics engineers. The participation in international conferences is highly encouraged and will be supported. Salary equals a 100% PhD position.
The job offer aims at persons with a Masters/Diploma degree from a (Technical) University in Microelectronics Engineering or Computer Science (with background in electronics).
Aptitude for communication systems, electronic systems, and computer-based measurements is expected.
Basic knowledge in communications, measurement techniques, circuit development in VHDL, simulation in Matlab (or a selection thereof) is required.
