Scholarship Description: The Synchromedia Lab at the Ecole de Technologie Superieur (University of Quebec) is seeking for a PhD candidate in the area of cloud middleware.Along with the expansion of NGN, cloud solutions have recently been deployed by many world class telecom carriers, such as AT&T, British Telecom and Deutsche Telekom, to provide a dynamic and virtualized infrastructure platform that enables subscribers to access their IT and networking infrastructure as a service. With a growing subscriber base, these carriers are under pressure to simplify network maintenance, as well as to offer world class managed services and reduce operational costs. Therefore, a cloud-based communications model is becoming critical to the success of their business. Current cloud architectures, however, do not meet Telco service requirements, because they are similar to public Internet clouds which are server-centric.The Green Telco Cloud project, supported by Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) of Canada and Ericsson, is aimed at developing the first cloud model that supports large-scale Telco applications.
