PhD Position in Computational Research Uppsala University
PhD position in computational research on materials properties at the Department of Physics and Materials Science. Starting date: September 2008.
A Ph.D. position is available at the Division of Materials Theory of Dept. of Physics and Materials Science at Uppsala University. The Division of Materials theory is known to have a world-class research environment in the ab-initio computational research on the materials properties. Besides the usage of existing state-of-the-art computational codes, a perpetual development of new methods and computational techniques is done in this department.
The Ph. D. student will work on the current hot topics of condensed matter physics. These include spintronic materials, multiferroics and graphene. The major thrust will be to explore the complex magnetic interactions to understand the experimental phenomena and predict new materials with novel properties. He/She is expected to use extensively the existing computational codes as well as to take part in the development and implementation of numerical techniques. Besides ab-initio electronic structure calculations, the student will be trained in Monte-Carlo and atomistic spin-dynamics simulations.
The applicant is expected to have a Masters degree in Physics with a good background in solid-state physics. Previous experience in ab-initio electronic structure calculation will be considered as an extra merit. Also, letter(s) of recommendation should be included.
