We seek a highly motivated candidate with a MSc degree in Chemistry (focus analytical chemistry, nanosciences), Biochemistry, Biotechnology or related fields, who enjoys working in a multinational research team. The candidate will make full use of the state?of?the art analytical equipment available at the Institute for Ecopreneurship (IEC), amongst others
LA?ICP?MS, LC?ICP?MS, (E)SEM?EDX, LC?ESI?MS, qTOF and GC?MS. Experience on the latter instrumentation is thus of benefit. Good knowledge of English (both oral and written) is essential.

Scholarship Open for International Students: No

Scholarship Description: Selenium deficiency is a problem of worldwide concern, affecting between 0.5 to 1 billion people. In animal breeding, selenium deficiency can lead to significant losses due to decreased productivity and increased susceptibility towards diseases. Worldwide Se resources available today are not sufficient to supply the entire world’s human and livestock population at an optimal level. It is therefore of utmost importance to develop Se formulations of maximized efficacy. The PhD candidate will aim at developing such novel, highly efficient selenium formulations based on organically modified nanoparticulate selenium composites. The successful candidate will synthetize such composites, characterize these regarding their physico‐chemical properties and examine their efficacy. The research program will be carried out in the in the frame of an industry founded project, ensuring a diversified work in the true interception point of fundamental and applied sciences.
