PhD Position in Fungal Molecular Biology, Denmark
PhD Position at the University of Aarhus,Faculty of Agricultural Sciences (DJF), Department of Animal Health and Bioscience
Job Description: The role of peptide transporters in autophagy:The aim of the project is to determine the role of peptide transporters in autophagy. Autophagy is an essential process in eukaryotes whereby malfunctioning organelles and proteins are removed and the nutrients recycled. It is involved in developmental pathways, tumour suppression, resistance to pathogens and extension of lifespan. We have identified a group of novel peptide transporters that could be part of the last stages of autophagy whereby degraded proteins are transported to the vacuole for recycling of nitrogen. We have shown that autophagy acts as a fungal virulence factor in Fusarium graminearum and in this project we will determine how these transporters and autophagy act in F. graminearum during infection of grain. The genome sequence of F. graminearum has revealed four of these peptide transporters that probably have diverse functions.
The PhD student will be part of a new research group at Foulum, working with various aspects of Fusarium, including infection biology and exploration of novel secondary metabolites. Currently, the group consists of a research leader, two post docs and one PhD-student. The group has collaborations with several highly respected national and international research groups.
Qualifications and specific competences
Applicants to the PhD positions must have a relevant Master’s degree (or graduate in the very near future – documentation for final thesis and date of examination must be enclosed in the application) or equivalent.
We are looking for a candidate with good skills in molecular biology, protein chemistry or fungal genetics. The ideal candidate can work independently, but can also be a strong team player in a young and informal research team that collaborates to achieve a high international level within fungal biotechnology.
In order to be considered for the position please remember to enclose your diplomas, grade sheets, transcripts etc.
