PhD-position in Optics (Raman-spectroscopy), University of Tromsø, Norway
Job Description: The University of Tromsø has a research fellow position vacant for applicants who would like to complete a PhD degree. The desired research area is optics, and in particular Raman-spectroscopy for subsea detection of methane. The PhD-project will focus on development of a prototype subsea instrument for the detection of methane, for use on ocean observatories. For initial measurements in a water tank, existing lasers and spectrometers can be used. The next phase will be to design, build and test a laboratory instrument.
The position is organized under the Department of Physics and Technology. The position is part of the project “Subsea sensors for oil and gas”, funded by the Research Council of Norway. The successful applicant must document a master-degree in physics or electrical engineering, and have a background in optics. Further, the successful applicant must fulfill the requirements for admission to the faculty’s PhD programme. The period of appointment is three years, which is also the length of the PhD-study. Remuneration is currently NOK 355 600 per annum (about €45 000). Applicants will be assessed by an expert committee.
